Systems Engineer – Product Definition
We are seeking an experienced Systems Applications Engineer to work in a customer-facing role, defining product integration and system architecture for advanced Power Management IC (PMIC) solutions. This position involves close collaboration with customers, product management, and engineering teams to translate system requirements into innovative mixed-signal IC products.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Tier 1 and Tier 2 customers, design engineering, and product management teams to define system requirements, performance targets, feature sets, and product architectures for complex Power Management ICs.
- Define and develop solutions incorporating integrated DC-DC buck and boost converters, charge pumps, hybrid power converters, Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), fuel gauges, monitoring circuits, clocking, analog and digital interfaces, and device-to-device communication.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of key technical documentation, including Objective Specifications, Datasheets, and Marketing/Concept Requirements Documents (MRDs).
- Participate in system architecture reviews, IC design reviews, and board-level design reviews to ensure alignment with product requirements and design objectives.
- Develop system-level models using SIMPLIS and MATLAB, as well as FPGA-based prototypes, to evaluate architectural trade-offs, validate concepts, and support feasibility studies.
- Contribute to product feasibility assessments during customer Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Product (RFP) phases.
- Support silicon evaluation at both chip and board level to verify compliance with product specifications, identify design issues, and document errata for implementation of required improvements.
- Drive customer design-in activities by providing technical leadership and application support to ensure successful product integration and launch.
- Support RMA investigations throughout the product development lifecycle, identifying root causes of early-stage failures and driving corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7–10 years of experience in systems engineering, applications engineering, or product definition within the semiconductor industry.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS), including battery protection, fuel gauge algorithms, and Analog-to-Digital Converters for single-cell and multi-cell battery configurations used in consumer electronics.
- Solid understanding of DC-DC power converters and mixed-signal ICs for portable electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, battery chargers, and related applications.
- Experience developing system-level product requirements and technical specifications for mixed-signal semiconductor products.
- Knowledge of multi-layer mixed-signal PCB design and system integration.
- Proficiency with system modelling tools such as SIMPLIS and MATLAB; FPGA prototyping experience is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts effectively to customers and cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to approximately four weeks per year) to support customer engagements.
