Senior Project Engineer Jannsen
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer with 10–15 years’ experience in a project engineering role, ideally within an API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) manufacturing environment.
This role forms part of the Global Engineering & Technology Team and is responsible for leading and delivering engineering projects at the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine site in Little Island. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with all cGMP and EHS requirements.
API experience is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Lead end-to-end delivery of engineering projects in alignment with site and business goals.
- Define project scope and secure Capital Approval.
- Manage project cost (estimation, forecasting, tracking, reporting).
- Develop and manage project schedules.
- Conduct risk management and mitigation planning.
- Perform retrospective project reviews and capture lessons learned.
Technical & Operational Support
- Lead and participate in commissioning and qualification (C&Q) activities.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment issues.
- Review and update P&IDs and engineering documentation.
- Conduct constructability, maintainability, and operability studies.
- Assess current condition of systems (structural, E&I, safety, permitting, documentation).
- Support manufacturing operations in compliance with cGMP and EHS standards.
- Provide process and equipment-related training as required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead cross-functional teams to achieve project and site objectives.
- Interface with Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, Quality, MSAT, Validation, and Training.
- Coordinate project interfaces with other site projects and external third parties.
- Lead investigations and resolve engineering deviations.
- Provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with corporate, site, cGMP, GDP, and EHS requirements.
- Complete and review all documentation in line with site procedures.
- Support ongoing studies and validation activities.
- Ensure training compliance for self and team members.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Accountable for safe execution of all assigned activities.
- Prioritise activities to meet Master Production Schedule requirements.
- Support business continuity through effective resource management.
- Travel to other J&J or external sites as required (~5%).
Reporting Line
Reports to: Principal Project Delivery Engineer / Engineering Manager
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or Science.
- 10+ years’ experience in project engineering, with significant exposure to API manufacturing.
- Proven experience delivering capital engineering projects in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment.
- Strong knowledge of cGMP and EHS requirements.
Desirable
- Project Management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
- Lean Six Sigma or equivalent problem-solving certification.
- Experience in a multinational pharmaceutical organisation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
