Software Engineering Manager – Control Systems

Lead a growing software engineering team developing the control systems for a cutting-edge neutral-atom quantum computer. You’ll manage and mentor engineers while driving the delivery of a high-performance control software stack, working closely with hardware engineers, researchers, and senior leadership.

What you’ll do

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers through mentoring, feedback, and hiring.

• Drive planning, prioritisation, and delivery of the control system software roadmap.

• Ensure engineering excellence through architecture, code quality, testing, and documentation.

• Collaborate across software and hardware teams to deliver integrated control systems.

• Align technical execution with business and product priorities, communicating progress and risks to leadership.

• Support R&D initiatives, including project and funding proposals.

   

What we’re looking for

• 3–5+ years of engineering leadership experience, or a strong senior engineer ready to step into management.

• Strong background in embedded systems, control software, software architecture, and hardware-integrated software development.

• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and experimental hardware; optics lab experience is a plus.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills with experience in Agile environments.

• Experience with electronics, FPGA, or real-time systems is advantageous.

• Startup or research environment experience is a plus.

• Fluent English required; German is a plus.

• Valid EU or German work authorisation.
