Technical Support Engineer
Technical Support Engineer
Nottingham, UK (Onsite / Field-based as required)
We are hiring a Technical Support Engineer (grad to senior level) to join the growing technical support function of a UK-based transport technology group. This Technical Support Engineer sits within a business delivering on-vehicle networking, CCTV, telematics, and AI-enabled edge systems across public transport and blue-light environments. As a Technical Support Engineer you will be responsible for diagnosing, resolving, and owning complex hardware and system issues across deployed customer sites and live fleet environments.
The company combines established transport technology expertise with a rapidly evolving AI division focused on computer vision and edge computing, supporting large-scale deployments across operational transport networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Own customer support tickets end-to-end, from initial triage through to full resolution
- Provide expert technical support via phone, email, and remote diagnostics
- Troubleshoot hardware, configuration, and system-level issues across deployed products
- Act as escalation point for complex or recurring technical issues
- Support customer onboarding and ensure smooth product deployment
- Travel to customer sites to investigate and resolve field-based issues when required
- Conduct hands-on fault replication and root cause analysis
- Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge base articles
- Deliver training and support materials for field engineers and customers
- Demonstrate product functionality and support customer understanding of system capabilities
- Identify recurring issues and contribute to improvements in process, tooling, and documentation
- Stay aware of emerging technologies relevant to CCTV, networking, and edge systems
Required Experience & Skills
- Happy to consider strong MSc grads with internship experience in Electronics and/or Networking, but hands-on experience in a technical support, field engineering, or hardware-focused role is preferred
- Background in electronics, telecoms, CCTV, networking, or similar technical environments
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with a focus on root cause analysis
- Clear and confident communicator, able to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience producing clear technical documentation or support materials
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and learning new support tools
- Degree in a relevant technical discipline or equivalent practical experience
- Previous experience in a customer-facing technical role

This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys troubleshooting real hardware in real environments. We are looking for someone who is naturally analytical, comfortable working directly with customers, and motivated by solving complex technical problems end-to-end.
Strong candidates will typically come from CCTV, networking, telecoms, or field service backgrounds. Exposure to AI edge computing or modern embedded hardware platforms is a strong advantage but not essential.
