Senior Research Engineer – Advanced Modeling
You will be joining an established network communications lab within a world-leading technology company at their lab Munich.
We are seeking a seasoned research professional to spearhead advanced modeling initiatives for high-speed physical layer (PHY) architectures. This role centers on refining predictive accuracy by integrating complex, real-world system behaviors into sophisticated simulation frameworks to uncover hidden limitations.
Responsibilities
- Advanced System Simulation: Construct high-fidelity behavioral and nonlinear models for PHY subsystems to accurately forecast performance and reveal constraints often missed by standard assumptions.
- Impairment Analysis: Examine how non-ideal factors—including signal distortion, bandwidth limitations, and memory effects—influence overall system performance and architectural choices.
- Algorithmic Innovation: Research and test novel signal processing and compensation strategies based on realistic system behavior.
- Strategic Problem Solving: Diagnose major system bottlenecks and develop technical solutions at both the architectural and individual component levels.
- Cross-Disciplinary Integration: Work alongside hardware and protocol teams to ensure a unified approach to next-generation connectivity solutions.
- Industry Leadership: Use data-driven insights to shape technical positions in international standards organizations (e.g., IEEE, UEC) and engage with global research institutions.
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- Extensive experience in nonlinear system modeling and signal processing, specifically for SerDes or PHY designs reaching 100Gb/s per lane or higher
- Familiarity with high-speed data converter performance and data-driven modeling techniques is highly advantageous
- Advanced proficiency in system-level simulation environments using Python or Matlab.
- A strong analytical mindset with the ability to challenge standard assumptions and explore unconventional solutions
- Full command of professional English; additional fluency in German or Chinese is a beneficial asset.
