The Opportunity
European Tech Recruit is seeking an experienced Senior EHS Specialist – Environmental for a long-term contract position within a major pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Cork.
Reporting into the site EHS function, the successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, maintenance and review of environmental programmes, ensuring continued compliance with regulatory, corporate and industry requirements.
This is a senior position with significant responsibility for Industrial Emissions licensing, EPA engagement, environmental monitoring, wastewater treatment, waste management and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage environmental matters associated with the site’s Industrial Emissions (IED) Licence.
- Ensure monitoring requirements are maintained for air emissions, groundwater, noise, wastewater and surface water.
- Act as a primary site contact for the EPA.
- Maintain compliance with applicable environmental legislation and EHS requirements.
- Prepare internal and external environmental reports, including EPA annual reporting.
- Act as system owner for site environmental abatement systems.
- Support operation and improvement of the onsite Wastewater Treatment Plant and Carbon Abatement System.
- Ensure required environmental monitoring and calibration activities are completed.
- Manage the environmental budget, including waste and external services.
- Support/supervise wastewater laboratory activities.
- Manage the site’s Total Waste Management contract.
- Lead environmental incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
- Participate in environmental audits, programme reviews and regulatory inspections.
- Maintain and improve environmental procedures, communication and training programmes.
- Support continued development of the site’s EHS and Sustainability culture.
Required Experience
- Relevant third-level qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, EHS or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant Environmental/EHS experience.
- Strong knowledge of Irish environmental legislation and industry best practice.
- Experience with Industrial Emissions licensing.
- Previous experience engaging with the EPA and/or Local Authorities.
- Strong Environmental and EHS technical knowledge.
- Experience within Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences or an equivalent highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience working to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Strong analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication capability.
