Senior Thermal Design Engineer – Electronics Cooling

Position Overview

A technology-focused research and engineering organization is seeking a Senior Thermal Design Engineer to advance the development of thermal solutions for electronic systems.

This role is centered on research-driven thermal design, with a strong emphasis on heat transfer physics, simulation, and evaluation of cooling strategies for high-performance electronic components. The position is suited for candidates with both academic and industrial experience in thermal engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct research and development in thermal management for electronic systems, with focus on cooling technologies.

• Analyze and design thermal solutions using fundamental principles of heat and mass transfer.

• Evaluate natural and forced convection mechanisms and their application to electronic cooling.

• Compare and assess different thermal management approaches based on:

  • Performance and efficiency

  • Cost and implementation feasibility

• Use computational tools to simulate and optimize thermal performance.

• Contribute to innovation in thermal design methodologies and emerging cooling techniques.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support system-level design and validation.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Heat Transfer, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.

• At least three years of industrial experience in thermal design for electronic systems.

• Strong theoretical foundation in:

  • Heat transfer

  • Mass transfer

  • Natural and forced convection

• Proven experience in research-oriented thermal engineering (beyond pure product design).

• Familiarity with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools such as:

  • Icepak

  • Fluent

  • STAR-CCM+

  • FloTHERM

• Ability to evaluate and compare thermal solutions from both technical and cost perspectives.

• Professional fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

• Postdoctoral research experience (2+ years) in thermal engineering or related fields.

• Experience working in international or multicultural environments.

• Exposure to advanced cooling technologies and emerging thermal management solutions.
