Principal Software Simulation Engineer – Robotics
This rapidly growing company are building autonomy intelligence software that enables vehicles to collaborate, adapt, and execute complex tasks.
Responsibilities
- Own simulation end-to-end — Full technical ownership across autonomy missions, environment modelling, sensor simulation, and integration with live systems
- Define the architecture — Drive tool selection, integration strategy, and the boundary between third-party components and in-house development
- Enable autonomy validation — Build a realistic environment for validating swarm behaviour including platform dynamics, environmental effects, and sensor inputs
- Set technical direction for the team — Deliver the MVP, establish standards, and create a foundation the team can scale
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years of directly relevant experience in simulation, autonomy, robotics, automotive, or defence software
- Hands-on experience with simulation platforms and clear opinions on their trade-offs (e.g. Gazebo, Isaac Sim, VBS4, game-engine-based, or custom in-house simulators)
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver high-quality simulation systems — and rebuild them better from scratch when needed
- Strong software engineering fundamentals: Python, CI integration, Docker/containerised environments
- Clear, concise communication and a track record of driving technical alignment across stakeholders
- Fluent English (Norwegian not required)
- Eligible for Norwegian security clearance — all employees are cleared due to their work with the Norwegian Armed Forces; prior clearance is not required, but eligibility is mandatory
Bonus
- Experience setting up industrial simulation environments from scratch
- Interest in growing into a team lead role
Selling Points
- Meaningful problems — Their technology enables smarter, safer UAV operations in defence and industry, with direct operational impact
- Real technical leadership — Greenfield ownership of a critical capability in a company where architectural decisions will matter for years
- Early-stage influence — Join while the company is still being shaped and leave a lasting mark on systems, tools, and culture
