Compiler Engineer

We are seeking a proactive Compiler Engineer to join the compiler and runtime libraries team across Cambridge, Edinburgh, and our international research hubs. In this role, you will tackle complex real-world compute challenges in server, HPC, and AI domains. You will analyze binary performance, apply cutting-edge compiler passes, resolve deep toolchain issues, and collaborate in a multicultural team to deliver high-impact software—with opportunities to contribute your work back to leading open-source projects.

Key Responsibilities

LLVM Compiler & Toolchain Development

• Extend and enhance LLVM-based compilers to support emerging hardware and instruction set features.
• Architect and execute advanced optimization passes tailored specifically for next-generation xPU architectures.
• Explore and integrate AI/ML techniques to drive intelligent, auto-tuning compiler optimizations.

Hardware Co-Design & Performance Analysis

• Rigorously analyze the efficiency and performance of compiler-generated machine code.
• Partner directly with hardware co-design and xPU architecture teams to influence future silicon and software design.

Key Requirements

• Genuine passion for compiler construction, code generation, and low-level software engineering.
• Advanced programming fluency in C and C++.
• Solid foundational understanding of modern CPU or xPU hardware architectures.

Preferred Attributes

• BSc, MSc, or equivalent degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Proven track record of contributions to open-source software communities or compiler codebases.
• Strong self-directed learning capabilities, hands-on execution skills, and curiosity to tackle complex engineering problems.
• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to working in distributed, multi-disciplinary teams.
