Senior Experimental AMO Physicist – Neutral Atom Quantum Computing

Play a leading role in the development of next-generation neutral-atom quantum computers. This senior position is ideal for an experienced experimental AMO physicist who can drive technical direction, influence system architecture, and mentor colleagues while advancing cutting-edge quantum hardware.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, characterise, and optimise neutral-atom quantum processors.

• Lead measurement campaigns, monitor system performance, and improve operational stability.

• Identify and mitigate sources of noise, decoherence, and gate errors to enhance system performance.

• Analyse experimental data to inform design decisions and hardware improvements.

• Drive architecture decisions and provide technical leadership across the quantum processing unit.

• Mentor scientists and engineers while contributing to the team’s technical growth.

• Apply the latest advances in AMO physics and quantum information to accelerate development.

What we’re looking for

• PhD in Experimental AMO Physics or a closely related field, plus 5+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience.

• Proven track record designing, building, and advancing complex neutral-atom or comparable experimental quantum systems.

• Deep expertise in one or more of the following:

  • Optical tweezers or optical lattices

  • Rydberg atom systems

  • Two-valence-electron atoms

  • Atomic clocks or atom interferometry

  • Quantum gates and neutral-atom quantum computing

• Experience mentoring scientists or engineers.

• Grant writing and research project experience is an advantage.
